🧩 How Recovery Contacts Works
- 👥 Choose your trusted contacts
In the Security section of your Google account, you can add one or more "Recovery Contacts": friends, relatives, or colleagues you truly trust. - 📩 When needed, they help verify you
If for some reason you lose access to your account and can't use traditional methods (SMS, email, passkey, etc.), Google can contact one of these people to send them a code or a confirmation notification. - 🔑 You receive the code, they don't see your data
The contact sends you the code they receive, you enter it, and… voilà! ✅
You can get back into your account, without anyone ever having access to your personal data. - 🔐 Reset your password
After your identity has been successfully verified by your recovery contact, Google will guide you through the password reset process — just like standard recovery procedures. This way, you can create a new, secure password (or passkey) and regain access to your Google services (Gmail, Drive, YouTube, etc.) as normal. - 🕒 Gradual rollout
The feature is being rolled out gradually, so don't worry if you don't see it in your account yet: it's coming soon!
